Sheridan Smith quits social media after cryptic message on receiving terrible news

Sheridan Smith has removed herself from social media.

The West End performer, 39, deleted her Instagram and Twitter accounts after sharing a cryptic message where she told that she had some "shocking news" on Monday evening.

Sheridan - who welcomed son Billy last year with fiancé Jamie Horn - removed all trace of her online presence after sparking concern by penning: "Just had the most shocking news, don’t let people get you down.

"We are here for a short time people, please be kind x."

After fans saw the message they rushed to the comments to check on the talented performer, but before long she hit the delete button on her accounts.

On a recent podcast appearance - where she was interviewed by talk show legend Lorraine Kelly - Sheridan expressed her fears over her son growing up around social media and trolling.

"It's hard now. I'm scared for my son. I never had the trolls when I was first starting out," the outlet report the Gavin and Stacey star says.

"I still find it hard to kind of see it and I have to delete my apps."

Sheridan told Lorraine: "I think my goodness, what next for my son?"

It is not the first time that Sherida has removed her social media accounts.

Earlier this month she mysteriously wiped her Twitter and Instagram pages - after teasing what's to come in her new book.

The Cleaning Up actress penned a tweet to her dedicated army of fans saying that she "can't wait" for them to get their hands on a copy of Honestly: My Story.

Keeping details vague, when posting at the start of May, Sheridan told that "a lot of truths will come out", adding: "I hope you finally understand."

The book is expected to hit shelves in October this year.

Penguin Publishing describes Honestly as "a northern soul speaking from the heart."

It also gives vague details about "feelings of imposter syndrome, struggles with her mental health and panic attacks."

"Packed with showbiz adventure, funny and warm, but dark times and heartbreak too," the description reads.

"This is the real Sheridan Smith, the incredible woman behind that prodigious talent."
