Sheridan Smith hints she will not appear in Christmas return of Gavin and Stacey

West End star Sheridan Smith has revealed she is likely to be missing from the hugely-anticipated return of Gavin and Stacey.

Star and co-creator of the show James Corden recently revealed he and fellow writer Ruth Jones had penned a new episode, which will be shown during the festive season.

But Sheridan, who played Ruth 'Rudi' Smith, will probably not be in the show, reports Plymouth Live.

Asked whether she could reveal any details about the show, Smith replied: "I wish. No, I’m not going to be in it, I think."

Corden and Ruth Jones recently confirmed the comedy would be making a surprise return. They said in a statement: "Over the last ten years we’ve talked a lot about Gavin and Stacey - where they might be today and what their lives might look like.

"And so in secret we took the plunge and wrote this one hour special.

We’ve loved revisiting Barry and Essex again and bringing the characters back together has been a joy.

"We’re so excited to get the chance to work with our fabulous cast and crew once more and to give fans of the show a festive treat this Christmas.

"Thank you BBC for helping to make this happen."

Corden and Jones are expected to be joined by Mathew Horne, Joanna Page, Rob Brydon, Larry Lamb, Melanie Walters and Alison Steadman for the new episode.
