Tony Shepherd will continue as chairman of AFL club GWS for at least a further three years.

Shepherd has chaired the Giants' board since the expansion club's inception.

The influential businessman is also at the helm of Venues NSW, the organisation in charge of the SCG and other sporting grounds.

Shepherd, a former president of the Business Council of Australia, has been asked to serve another three-year term at the club's annual general meeting.

This year will mark the Giants' 10th AFL season and it shapes as a pivotal campaign, coming after their four-year run of finals football ended with a 10th-placed finish in 2020.

"As a club, we have achieved a great deal since entering the competition in 2012," Shepherd said.

"This includes growing our membership base beyond 30,000 people, building state-of-the-art training and administration facilities and expanding to now include an AFLW team and a partnership with Giants Netball.

"We are looking ahead with optimism as we continue to grow the Giants and the code more broadly."

AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan praised Shepherd's leadership over the past 10 years.

"Tony Shepherd has been an outstanding leader for our newest club and we are delighted he will continue," McLachlan said.
