Shelter names kittens Indiana, Jones, Harrison and Ford after Hollywood film comes to the North East

Meet Harrison, Ford, Indiana and Jones.

They're the latest additions to Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter, in Benton, and they're already winning the hearts of pet lovers.

The kittens were born at the shelter on March 23 after their mum Miley was brought into the site as a heavily pregnant stray on March 18.

Shelter staff would normally name the kittens when they're almost ready for rehoming to give them chance to know their personalities.

But when news broke that Hollywood actor Harrison Ford was in the region to film the new Indiana Jones movie in Northumberland, shelter staff suddenly realised they had the perfect names.

Aimee Shorter, Welfare Officer at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter said: "This seemed like the perfect time to name the kittens as it's a nice homage and tribute to the filming and Harrison Ford's visit to the North East.

"Normally we wait a little longer to name them, but our deputy CEO Jenna Lawson suggested the names for them and we just thought it would be a nice thing to do."

Filming for the fifth Indiana Jones took place at Bamburgh Castle last week, creating some dramatic scenes of the Northumberland landmark as flames could be seen emerging from the castle.

Meanwhile, Harrison Ford was spotted by fans in the region on a number of occasions during the week, before leaving the North East via private helicopter.

But Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter's unique tribute to the A-lister's visit will be a lasting reminder of an exiting week for film fans.

Aimee added: "We've named the two smaller kittens Indiana and Jones and the larger two Harrison and Ford.

"Since we shared it on social media everyone has been loving it. They've said how lovely it is and how cute they are."

All four kittens and mum Miley are in good health and are settling in to life at the shelter until they find their forever home.

Indiana, Jones, Harrison and Ford are described by Aimee as happy and playful and she has noticed that they're all "starting to come out of their shell, they're really sweet".

The kittens are still under vet care at the moment and will be ready for rehoming, on their own or in a pair, soon.

Once Indiana, Jones, Harrison and Ford are ready for rehoming, their application forms will go on the shelter's website.

But until then there are lots of lovely adult cats ready to go to their forever homes now and they are already listed online.
