Shell veteran takes up new role to help unlock potential of North Sea find

A former executive at Shell who spent almost four decades with the group has been appointed as an advisor to a North Sea firm working on a major new development.

Dr Chris Haynes has been appointed to help the board of Jersey Oil & Gas as it progresses with the development of the Greater Buchan Area which could hold more than 200 million barrels.

Haynes, who retired Shell in 2011 after serving as head of delivery of its major upstream projects worldwide, currently serves as a non-executive director of energy firms Woodside Petroleum and Worley.

Andrew Benitz, CEO of Jersey Oil & Gas, said Haynes’ “wealth of project development experience will be of great benefit as we progress through the next stage gates of our highly exciting Greater Buchan Area development project".

Last month the company joined forces with other players to help develop the potential of the Greater Buchan Area in the central North Sea.

The company will lead a project to look at ways operators can work together to reduce costs and environmental impact involved.

The study will also look at the potential for a new production hub in the area, potentially including electrification of it.

Other firms involved in the project include Equinor UK, Ping Petroleum and Zennor Resources.
