Shelbourne to enter Champions League in first round as UEFA confirm seedings

Shelbourne will enter the 2022/23 Champions League at the first round stage as UEFA confirmed seedings for the competition.

The Reds sealed the Women's National League title on a dramatic final day earlier this month as they beat Wexford Youths while Peamount United were shocked by Galway.

Their reward will be to take part in a four-team mini-tournament in August with the winners progressing to a two-legged knockout tie for a place in the group stages.

The format is identical to this season's competition, which saw Peamount eliminated in the first round following defeat to Serbia's Spartak Subotica at a tournament hosted by Dutch champions Twente.

Ireland is currently ranked 34th in the UEFA league coefficients, so the champions will join 43 other domestic champions in round one, including two preliminary round winners.

The draw for Round One will take place next summer, and each mini-tournament will be hosted by one of the teams in the four sides based on a blind draw.
