Shelbourne snap up Michael O'Connor following striker's Ross County exit

Shelbourne have pounced for free agent Michael O’Connor following his exit from Ross County.

The former Dundalk, Shamrock Rovers and Linfield striker only joined the SPL side from Waterford in September.

But he made a shock exit during the week and Shels have swooped ahead of their promotion push following relegation to the First Division.

Alan Reynolds, who joined Shels as assistant manager earlier this week, was O’Connor’s manager at Waterford.

And O’Connor said: “It’s great to get the deal done, it’s been a hectic few days but I’m delighted it’s over the line now.

“I’ve had good conversations with Alan Reynolds and obviously with Ian Morris too. We’ve a big season ahead to get this club back to where it belongs.”

Shels boss Morris described O’Connor as “an absolute handful” and said: “He’s a young, powerful lad who will score goals.

“He’s a lively character that needs to get in and play regularly. We’re delighted to have him in.”
