Shelbourne sign Brendan Clarke from St Pat's as Ian Morris bids to bounce back

Brendan Clarke has signed for Shelbourne to bolster their bid for a swift return to the Premier Division.

Former league and FAI Cup winner Clarke, 35, was the St Pat's player of the year for last season.

The hugely experienced goalkeeper said that Reds boss Ian Morris' "clear plan" for First Division title success last year convinced him the right move was to leave Richmond Park for Tolka Park.

“His pursuit of me really showed that he wanted me to come to the club, and he spoke about the respect he had for me as a player and a person," said Clarke.

“He described to me what he wants to do at the club and bring it forward, and that is something I want to be a part of."

For his part, Morris believes Clarke is a massive addition. “He’s had a huge career in the League of Ireland while being fantastically successful and he’ll help us evolve as a team," said the Reds boss.

Meanwhile, striker Shane Doherty has re-signed for Galway United as John Caulfield begins his preparations for another push for promotion in his first full year in charge.

"John has put a lot of faith in me as a player," said Doherty. "I have a lot to improve on, but I want to give 100% to the cause.

"The main focus has to be on the team and promotion".
