Shelbourne boss Ian Morris has slammed the decision to award Galway United a walkover win over Cabinteely.
And he claimed it makes “an absolute mockery of the league”.
Last Friday’s clash between Cabo and Galway was called off two hours before kick-off after a positive case in the Cabinteely squad.
A new FAI rule brought in over the winter says that games cannot be postponed for Covid-related reasons if there are 14 players available.
Cabinteely wanted to play but the club’s board agreed to postpone after discussions with the HSE and FAI.
But now they have been hit with a disciplinary committee ruling that hands John Caulfield's Galway the 3-0 win.
Shels boss Morris called the situation “awful” and urged the league to reexamine the ruling, declaring: “It gives title rivals a leg up.”
And he added: “We have - as other teams do - Under-19s players registered for this sort of incident and teams should be able to fulfill these fixtures.”
Last year, Derry City were charged by the FAI for failing to fulfil a league fixture with Shamrock Rovers after a Covid case in the Candystripes squad.
But no sanction was imposed as Derry pointed out they were acting on public health advice in Northern Ireland.
