Shelar to represent MCA in BCCI elections, Patil tipped to be MCA president

MUMBAI: Former Mumbai Cricket Association president Ashish Shelar is set to represent MCA in the BCCI's elections and Annual General Meeting here on October 18.

A decision in this regard will formally be taken in an emergent meeting of the Apex Council on Friday, where the matter "1. To appoint the Association's representative to attend the BCCI AGM to be held on 18th October 2022," has been listed as the additional agenda of the meeting by MCA secretary Sanjay Naik.

With the Supreme Court allowing MLAs/MPs to take up positions in BCCI/state associations, Shelar, who is currently the Mumbai BJP president, is being tipped to be elected as the new vice-president, or atleast an office-bearer of the BCCI. With Shelar now likely to take up a post in the BCCI, the decks are clear for India's 1983 World Cup hero Sandeep Patil to become the new MCA president in the upcoming elections.

MCA's elections were initially scheduled for September 28, but they are now likely to be held on October 20. The nominations will be filed between October 10 and 13. Withdrawals of nominations will be allowed till October 17. The final schedule of the elections will be decided in the Apex Council meeting on Friday.

On the day of the Apex Council meeting, a resolution to request Shelar to represent MCA in the BCCI AGM was moved by MCA Apex Council member Ajinkya Naik, with Apex member Kaushik Godbole seconding it. "Be it resolved that Ashish Shelar be appointed as the representative of MCA to attend the AGM of the BCCI to be held on October 18 2022." "Be it further resolved that Shelar shall also participate in the proceedings of the BCCI elections to be held on October 18 2022," read the resolutions.
