Sheikh Jassim's Nine Two registration explained amid Manchester United takeover speculation

The approval of Sheikh Jassim's Nine Two Holdings Limited as a UK company is not thought to be an indicator of an imminent takeover decision.

The company was 'incorporated' by government agency Companies House on Thursday, with Sheikh Jassim listed as one of the directors and an address on Norwich Street in London listed as the foundation's UK residence.

News of the registration caused a wave of speculation that the Qatari bid to take over Manchester United had been successful, but multiple subsequent reports stated that it is not linked to a final decision.

Paperwork to see Nine Two Holdings Limited registered in the UK was filed months ago, before Sheikh Jassim's last two offers. The decision to register his foundation in the country is seen more as preparation to have formalities in place, should he be chosen as the preferred bidder.

Reports circulated on Monday that the Qatari bid had been successful, with media outlet Al Watan claiming an announcement was imminent. However they have since backtracked on those claims, with editorial director Fahed al Emadi tweeting on Wednesday that they were merely re-reporting what was being said in Europe.

Sheikh Jassim tabled a fifth bid as recently as last week, with the Qatari banker looking to complete a 100% buyout of the club. His main rival, INEOS founder Sir Jim Ratcliffe, plans to buy the Glazers' 69% share, although some reports have suggested he may allow brothers Joel and Avram to retain a minority share.

The American family are yet to confirm any developments regarding their decision, and frustration is growing both among fans and inside the club. The summer transfer window opened on Wednesday, with Erik ten Hag planning for major investment but unsure as to who will be signing the cheques.
