Sheikh of al-Azhar Dr. Ahmed al-Tayeb concluded on Tuesday a visit to Saudi Arabia, hailing Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz’s keenness on ties with Egypt.
He had held talks with King Salman on Monday.
Sheikh al-Tayeb said the meeting affirmed the monarch’s support for Cairo and his keenness on preserving relations with it.
The continuous cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Egypt should be increased to confront the challenges against the Arab and Islamic nations, he stated.
Prior to his departure, Sheikh of al-Tayeb was hosted to a dinner banquet by the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance. It was attended by General Mufti of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, President of Senior Scholars Council and General President of Religious Research and Ifta Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al Al-Sheikh and a number of ministers, sheikhs and heads of courts.
Sheikh al-Tayeb affirmed that Al-Azhar, Egypt and the Arab and Islamic nations support Saudi Arabia against the decision issued recently by the US Senate against the Kingdom.
“We will never allow any meddling that could affect this strong and solid relationship between the Kingdom and Egypt,” he declared.
