Sheffield Wednesday v Swansea City to go ahead despite Sheffield floods near Hillsborough as club issue update

Swansea City's Championship clash with Sheffield Wednesday will go ahead as planned despite severe flooding around Hillsborough Stadium.

The Steel City was hit with heavy rainfall on Thursday, causing severe flooding in areas including near the Owls' home ground.

Residents on Vere Road, which runs directly behind the 39,732-seater ground, were evacuated from their homes late on Thursday night.

The Government's Environment Agency issued further flood warnings for the early hours of Friday, with several schools and local businesses in the city being forced to close.

However, water levels in the area have now significantly dropped, while the forecast for the next 24 hours should see the decrease continue.

On Friday morning, Sheffield Wednesday stated there were no issues at the stadium.

And it has been confirmed that the fixture in South Yorkshire will take place at the scheduled time.

Steve Cooper's men face the Owls at 3pm on Saturday.

The Swans currently sit in fourth place in the table, three places and four points better off than Garry Monk's Sheffield Wednesday.
