Sheffield Wednesday to launch last-gasp bid for Bristol City winger Callum O'Dowda - report

Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly plotting a last-gasp move for Callum O'Dowda.

Football Insider claim that the Owls are keen on a move for the Bristol City winger, who is out of contract next summer.

O'Dowda has been linked with the exit door at the Robins all summer following a breakdown in talks over a new contract.

He was previously linked with Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Fulham, but no move has come to fruition.

Whilst Fulham have come the closest to signing him, they backed out of the deal after learning of City's asking price.

However, Sheffield Wednesday are now looking to launch a late bid to secure his services on deadline day.

The report claims the Robins are still open to letting him leave should the right bid be submitted - yet after City's defeat to Leeds United on Sunday, manager Lee Johnson said a contract offer was still on the table for O'Dowda.

"I'd like to extend the olive branch,"  said Johnson .

"There's no secret in the fact Fulham were spinning the plate, if you like, and I think Callum believed it and I think it took the focus away from Bristol City for him.

"Now we've got to the point where it hasn't happened because of the signings that they've made and that's where players have got to be a little bit smarter and listen to the people that are in the know and care about them and are not always representatives.

"That move didn't come off for him. There are clubs probably still interested but at the same time we would like him to re-sign.

"But I'd rather him re-sign today than on the ninth (of August), because I think that shows the commitment to the cause rather than, 'alright, I'll have a look at what's out there and at the death I'll make a decision to sign'."
