Sheffield Wednesday seek to seal Cardiff City defender transfer ahead of Bolton Wanderers clash

Sheffield Wednesday are seeking to add Cardiff City defender Mark McGuinness on loan ahead of Saturday's trip to take on Bolton Wanderers, according to reports.

More than 20,000 tickets have been sold for the clash at the University of Bolton Stadium. Some 5,000 Owls fans poised to be in attendance too as two of the sides with aspirations to be near the top of the table by the end of the season will take on each other.

Wanderers go into the encounter unbeaten so far this season and are fourth in the table on eight points. The Owls are just behind the Whites with seven points, and sit eighth after the midweek loss on the road to Peterborough United.

Wednesday will be without the services of defender Reece James against Wanderers. The defender was sent off in the midweek loss to Peterborough United and is suspended.

But Darren Moore is seeking to add to his defensive options ahead of taking on the Whites. A new arrival is incoming, according to reports.

The Sheffield Star says that Wednesday are closing in on former Arsenal prospect McGuiness. His is poised to join on loan from Cardiff.

Wednesday are seeking to have the arrival confirmed in time for the trip to Wanderers. The transfer would need to be registered with the EFL by midday on Friday, August 19.
