Sheffield Wednesday have parted company with manager Garry Monk after 14 months in charge.
The Championship club, who last week saw their 12-point deduction halved, currently sit 23rd in the table with six points from their opening 11 games.
Monk's final game was Saturday's goalless draw with Millwall, with the ex-Middlesbrough, Leeds, Swansea and Birmingham boss receiving his marching orders after three wins, three draws and five defeats from their opening fixtures.
Ultimately he has paid for a dismal home record, with Wednesday recording just two wins in their last 19 games at Hillsborough.
He had also won just seven league games in 2020.
Thus, Monk and a number of members of his coaching staff have duly seen their contracts terminated.
Chairman Dejphon Chansiri said: “I feel the time is right to make a change and I wish Garry and his team all the best for the future.
“I would like to say thank you for the time and effort Garry and his staff have committed to Sheffield Wednesday.”
Monk had joined the Owls in September 2019, taking charge following Steve Bruce's departure for Newcastle United.
He oversaw 58 games during his reign in Yorkshire.
Chansiri's decision comes just four days after he held a remarkable press conference which lasted over three hours, where he was questioned about Monk's recent record and gave him a vote of confidence.
“You can’t mix two seasons together," he remarked.
"I always say to the media and all the fans it is easy to make a decision without responsibility. It’s easy to say, ‘Not good, sack!’
"Some managers have gone to other clubs and not been a success. It’s easy to sack the manager but sometimes it is not 100 per cent the manager’s fault.
"For me, on the pitch, it is more the fault of the players. On the pitch, the manager can’t do anything.”
Thoughts will now turn to who is most likely to replace Monk, with Danny Cowley and Paul Cook likely to be among the favourites.
Both are currently out of work and looking to return to management following their exits from Huddersfield and Wigan respectively.
Nigel Pearson is another potential option, having spoken over the weekend of his desire to get back into the game also.
