Sheffield Wednesday's Lucas Joao set to move elsewhere as Bristol City striker search narrows

Bristol City's search for a new striker is narrowing with another of their touted targets set to move elsewhere.

Sheffield Wednesday's Lucas Joao is due to undergo a medical with Reading on Tuesday.

The towering Portuguese international has been heavily linked with a move to Ashton Gate this summer, however the Sheffield Star reports the Royals have agreed a 'substantial fee' for the 25-year-old.

Sky Sports News have said the fee could rise to as much as £7m.

Joao made 32 appearances last term, scoring 10 goals and providing two assists.

The news comes just a day after another supposed target - Barnsley's Kieffer Moore - joined Wigan Athletic for around £3m. However, Bristol Live understands he was a potential fallback.

Lee Johnson has made no secret of his desire to bring in a goalscorer before the transfer window closes at 8pm on Thursday, August 8.

His main objective remains Arsenal's Eddie's Nketiah, while Jordan Rhodes emerged as an option on Monday evening.
