Sheffield Wednesday's Jordan Rhodes decision made as Cardiff City left to sweat on striker search

Sheffield Wednesday striker Jordan Rhodes will not head to Cardiff City on transfer deadline day despite the Bluebirds having harboured an interest, WalesOnline has learned.

Mick McCarthy is a fan of Rhodes, a proven striker in this division who has scored more than 200 goals across 500 professional games.

It is understood the club had explored a number of options in recent days in order to get a deal done, but none were deemed workable by all parties.

Rhodes, 30, is out of contract at Hillsborough this summer, however it is expected he will now stay there for the rest of the campaign.

Cardiff, meanwhile, are set to wave goodbye to a striker of their own, with Robert Glatzel expected to sign for Buendesliga outfit Mainz on deadline day.

It leaves the Bluebirds short on striker options now, with a huge weight of responsibility now resting on the broad shoulders of Kieffer Moore.

Moore's back-ups are January signing Max Watters and academy product Mark Harris, 21 and 22 respectively, who have just 13 Championship games and one goal between them.

In light of the above, it would be foolish to rule out another striker signing in the coming hours, to help ease the goalscoring burden on Wales striker Moore.
