Sheffield Wednesday interested in loan move for Bristol City target and Crystal Palace forward

Sheffield Wednesday have reportedly joined the race for Bristol City target and Crystal Palace forward Connor Wickham.

The Owls are keen to bolster their attacking options after an injury to 12-goal striker Steven Fletcher, and will look to bring in Wickham on loan, according to the Sheffield Star .

Fletcher is expected to be out of action for eight to 10 weeks with a knee injury and Sheffield Wednesday are now left to rely on Jordan Rhodes for their goals. Rhodes has scored just three times in the Championship this season.

Wickham has made four substitute appearances in the Premier League this season, scoring the one goal, and is behind the likes of Christian Benteke and Jordan Ayew in Roy Hodgson's pecking order.

His lack of game time means that several Championship clubs are circling, including the Owls, Bristol City and Nottingham Forest.

Bristol Live understands that initial talks between Bristol City and Wickham have been held, however there was no indication whether it would be a loan move or a permanent transfer.

Wickham was keen to stay at Crystal Palace and fight for his place in the summer, but after playing just 62 minutes of top flight football this season that has now change

Several Championship clubs are looking for a forward and many have been linked with the same names, with the likes of Wickham and Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah interesting a host of goal hungry teams.

And Owls boss Garry Monk admitted as much. He told the Star: “We were looking to bolster our attacking areas, and add to the squad. Of course, with Fletcher being out for that period, it does change that factor even more.

“But we are looking at a market of loans, which is competitive, and the type of window that it is, a lot of team are after the same players.

“It’s difficult, but we are working hard behind the scenes to see if we can get to a solution on a few options. That’s ongoing.”

Bristol City are still considering other attacking options, with another target being Slovan Bratislava forward Andraz Sporar.

The prolific striker is interesting clubs from across Europe, including Sporting CP and Celtic, and the Slovan hierarchy have admitted that there is 'huge interest' and that they will only accept a transfer fee which 'matches the current value of Sporar'.
