Sheffield Wednesday injury latest ahead of potential Nottingham Forest clash

Nottingham Forest could be set to return to action in just a matter of weeks.

The Championship are eyeing a return to action around mid-June and should action resume as planned after around three weeks off due to the coronavirus pandemic, Sabri Lamouchi and his men will have the chance to finish off their play-off bid, currently sitting in fifth.

And according to Luton Town chief Gary Sweet, they will likely pick up where they left off in terms of the fixture list.

At a press conference where Nathan Jones was officially unveiled to the media for the second time as Luton manager, Sweet said: “We’ve had a good full week of training back at Brache, as the first phase return to training protocol has been successful. The lads have been excellent, have been professional, enthusiastic about the return.

“We have had no positive cases on the two tests we’ve done so far. Indeed the league generally, apart from a couple, haven’t had any positive tests, which is fantastic news.

“Not for that reason, but as was planned, the Championship is going to play the rest of the season in the order that it was structured in terms of fixtures.

“We as a club have to get going. We’ve got to hit the ground sprinting. If the season didn’t play out for some reason, for example, as of now, we would be relegated and relegation isn’t something that we want to face, I’ll be honest."

That means Forest would next be in action against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

The Owls have struggled this season, currently sitting in 15th, but Garry Monk has been boosted by some positive injury news over the course of the break.

Moses Odubajo, Massimo Luongo and Adam Reach have all returned to full fitness having struggled with injuries before the break.

And that's not all, Kieran Lee has also recovered from a groin injury he was troubled by before the season was disrupted.

Speaking about the club's fitness situation, Owls skipper Tom Lees said last month: “Before we left, we had another meeting and the fitness and conditioning team gave us a presentation on why we need to keep training at home and try as much as possible to maintain the fitness we have.

“All the points the manager had made a week earlier were reiterated, but then the science behind that too; reduction in the chance of injury, how your body responds when not active and all these kind of things.

“We have not been playing well and results were not what we wanted. There was a lot of disappointment and anger around. We had a meeting with the manager on Friday [before the first suspended fixture with Nottingham Forest] and it was basically outlined that we will carry on training as normal.

“We need to maintain and also improve our fitness, work on our games individually and collectively and use the time we have to make sure that when the game does restart, we are ready to go because it's a big set of remaining fixtures."
