Sheffield Wednesday fans in uproar after defender appears to 'celebrate' Nottingham Forest goal

Sheffield Wednesday defender Moses Odubajo has denied congratulating Lewis Grabban after his goal for Nottingham Forest last night.

Odubajo has come under fire from Wednesday fans after appearing to high five Grabban following the striker’s game-clinching strike in the Reds’ 2-0 win at the City Ground.

However, the defender has taken to social media to insist he was laughing because he thought the goal was not going to stand.

In a series of tweets after the game, Odubajo wrote: "The loss is frustrating for myself and the team. I would never high 5 another player for scoring against us.

“I said to Grabban no way is that a goal because of the foul and laughed it off thinking the goal wouldn’t stand.

"We’re bottom of the league. No one at the club wants relegation and there’s no chance I would celebrate a goal that keeps us at the bottom.

"Out of context, videos can be misconstrued. I hope I’ve cleared it up with the fans who doubted my commitment to the team."

When asked about the incident after the game, Owls manager told Sheffield publication The Star that he would be "dealing with it".

Here’s what Wednesday fans have been saying on Twitter.

Odubajo will be suspended for the Owls' game against Coventry City on Saturday after picking up his fifth booking of the season.
