Sheffield Wednesday fan confronts Steve Bruce at friendly amid Newcastle speculation

A Sheffield Wednesday supporter has confronted manager Steve Bruce after he emerged as the favourite to succeed Rafael Benitez at Newcastle United.

'Rafa' departed the Magpies after three years at the club after they failed to reach an agreement with the Spaniard regarding the terms of his contract.

Bruce is being tipped to replace Benitez on Tyneside however, one Wednesday fan has not taken kindly to the news that the 58-year-old could be on his way out.

According to the Shields Gazette , the supporter confronted Bruce during the Owls pre-season match against Lincoln City at their Sincil Bank home.

They say the 58-year-old was 'confronted by a fan who was escorted away by police' during the first half, receiving boo's from the remainder of the away section.

Bruce was reportedly clapped off at half time and the Wednesday supporters were singing 'Steve Bruce's barmy army,' showing full support for their manager.

He replaced Jos Luhukay in January this year although left his assistants, Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence, in charge until he officially took up the role in February.

Factors delaying his appointment at Newcastle meant Bruce would take charge of the Owls game with Lincoln, and the experienced figure went about his business professionally.

Latest reports from talkSPORT are suggesting that Bruce has agreed personal terms with Newcastle, but Wednesday's demands for compensation are delaying the process.

The Magpies were hoping to unveil their new manager on Friday before flying out to China to begin their pre-season preparations. However, they have left with the situation ongoing.

Wednesday are supposedly seeking compensation as they look set to lose their manager just weeks before the start of the new season, leaving Newcastle representatives to strike a deal that will please all parties.

Bruce's current employers appear to be taking control of the negotiations, holding out for the right sum of money before letting their manager leave for the Premier League.
