Sheffield Wednesday call press conference as Monk tipped for manager job

Sheffield Wednesday have called a press conference this afternoon, as speculation mounts over their manager vacancy.

Former Leeds United boss Garry Monk is who left the South Yorkshire club for Newcastle in the summer.

Since then Lee Bullen has been looking after things for the Championship side, who have begun the campaign with three wins and three defeats in the first six games.

Monk was appointed head coach at Leeds in June 2016, when the club was owned by Italian Massimo Cellino. In his 53 games in charge the team won 25 and lost 17.

Monk then resigned as manager after the end of his first season in charge, when the team finished seventh in the league. Just two days before leaving the club, now-owner Andrea Radrizzani had taken full control of the club.

Sheffield Wednesday's announcement:

Monk then landed the manager job at Middlesbrough but only lasted until December of that year before joining Birmingham City in March 2018.

Monk did a solid job at Birmingham under the circumstances after a points deduction but was sacked after a breaking down in his relationship with the board.
