Sheffield Wednesday boss addresses his future ahead of Nottingham Forest clash

Under-pressure Sheffield Wednesday boss Garry Monk has addressed his own future, ahead of Saturday’s clash with Nottingham Forest.

There is still some doubt the Championship game will go ahead due to the coronavirus outbreak, following the news Reds owner Evangelos Marinakis tested positive for COVID-19.

If it does, Monk knows the Owls desperately need a result after picking up one win in their last 10 league games.

“I know what I have to do. I have to produce results,” he said in his pre-match press conference. “Results are king.

“I have to use these games going up to the international break to put a consistent run together.

“That changing room is together but we are going through a tough time.

“We are not dwelling on the negative side of it.”

He added: “We have to stick together, and that is what we have been trying to do all the way through it.

“There are a few things we have been working on with the team, and I am hopeful that can help the team.

“We have not been giving ourselves a fighting chance in games, with the goals we have been conceding.

“We need to think about how we can address that, and that is what we have been focused on this week.”

Wednesday thumped Sabri Lamouchi’s promotion-chasing Reds 4-0 in the reverse fixture at the City Ground back in December.

But Monk says that result will have little bearing on what happens this weekend.

“That game doesn’t count for much in terms of what we are facing on Saturday,” he said.

“We are not in that situation that we were in then, with confidence and belief levels.

“It is a massive game. The challenge is to do something about it.

“They are in a strong position in this league, but we are fighting for our own cause.”
