Sheffield Wednesday have made the former West Ham and Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder part of a three-man committee which will operate in place of a sporting director at the club. The former Hull City owner and chairman Adam Pearson has also been appointed to the committee and the pair will work alongside the current head coach Stuart Gray.
The club have said Pearson and Roeder “will form two parts of what is effectively a three-man sporting director by committee” in what will be a new structure at the club. Roeder will be tasked with working on the team, while Pearson will aim to expand the club’s business strategy. Both will operate as advisors to the club’s chairman Dejphon Chansiri.
“Adam and Glenn are seasoned football professionals and I am delighted they are joining us on this exciting journey, which we all intend will lead to the Premier League,” said Chansiri.
“To achieve that ambition, it is imperative for the prosperity of our club that anyone I introduce is of absolutely the right football calibre and both Adam and Glenn meet this requirement.
“They will work alongside our head coach Stuart Gray having been carefully selected to focus on a clearly defined scope of responsibility deemed vital to the club’s interests and future successes, on and off the pitch.”
Pearson is the former owner and chairman of Hull City and owns Hull FC rugby league club. He has also served as the chairman at Derby County and has been on the Leeds United board. Roeder has managed West Ham and Newcastle in the Premier League and Norwich in the Championship.
