Sheffield Wednesday announce £500,000 signing of Callum Paterson from Cardiff City

Sheffield Wednesday have completed the signing of Callum Paterson from Cardiff City in a deal believed to be worth around £500,000.

Scotland international Paterson grew to become a fans' favourite over the course of three seasons at Cardiff City Stadium, but has struggled for regular inclusion in Neil Harris' starting lineup.

He had fallen further down the pecking order this term after the Bluebirds signed Wales international Kieffer Moore from Wigan Athletic and it appears the Scot has moved to Hillsborough in search of regular action.

Paterson will be remembered fondly in this part of the world as the man who helped drive Cardiff City's promotion campaign in his maiden season in 2017/18, scoring 10 goals as Neil Warnock's side finished second in the league.

The 25-year-old utility man then went on to lead the line on a number of occasions during the Premier League campaign, scoring four times in the top flight.

"Sheffield Wednesday are pleased to announce the signing of Scotland international Callum Paterson from Cardiff City for an undisclosed fee," a Sheffield Wednesday statement read on Wednesday afternoon.

"The versatile forward, who received a call-up for the Scottish national side on Tuesday, joins up with the Owls ahead of our clash with QPR on Saturday.

"Welcome to Wednesday, Callum!"

Following the departures of Jazz Richards, Matthew Connolly, Danny Ward, Omar Bogle, Neil Etheridge and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Paterson is the seventh senior player to leave the Welsh capital club this summer.

In a statement of their own, the Bluebirds wrote: "Cardiff City Football Club can confirm that Callum Paterson has completed a move to Sheffield Wednesday, subject to international clearance.

"The Scotland international arrived in the Welsh capital in the summer of 2017 and went on to net 10 goals in that season's promotion campaign.

"He led the Bluebirds' line in the Premier League on 27 occasions, adding four top-flight strikes, before passing 100 appearances in the City shirt last season.

"We thank Callum for his contribution over the past three seasons and wish him all the very best for the future."
