Sheffield United weighing up big money swoop for Swansea City defender - reports

Sheffield United are keeping tabs on Swansea City defender Joe Rodon.

That's according to The Sun , who claim that Chris Wilder views the Wales international as the perfect man to strengthen his back line, despite the Blades already impressing in the first season back in the Premier League.

The United boss is said to be particularly impressed by the young centre-back's ability to play out from the back, and is now keen for him to link up with old pal Oli McBurnie, who swapped South Wales for Bramall Lane in a £20m move over summer.

Reports suggest Rodon would likely be just as expensive should the Blades wish to firm up their interest.

A positive summer, led by new chairman Trevor Birch, has helped Swansea to balance the books financially, but the club are believed to nevertheless be vulnerable to any big bids for their brightest stars.

Rodon himself is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, with boss Steve Cooper revealing the 22-year old will require surgery on a tendon problem, keeping him out for at least two months.

Speaking after Swansea's sensational derby-day victory over Cardiff City, he said : "First of all I'm disappointed for Joe, he picked up a fresh injury on Tuesday night [in the defeat to Brentford].

"We were a little bit worried because he had a knock on the ankle last week which he was trying to play through, so we thought it was an extension of that. But it's a new injury that's ruled him out for a few months. He's going to need an operation next week.

"He's got a tendon injury that rules him out of the Wales games too. We're disappointed for him, but what hurts him will make him stronger."
