Sheffield United vs Tottenham: VAR controversy as Lucas Moura 'handball' sees Harry Kane goal ruled out

Harry Kane was denied a record-breaking goal at Sheffield United as Tottenham endured more VAR controversy on Thursday evening.

After Sander Berge gave the hosts a 31st-minute lead, Tottenham talisman Kane instantly drew the visitors level - or so he thought - with his left-footed strike squeezing past Dean Henderson in the Blades goal.

The England captain would have completed the Premier League set with the goal, scoring against all 29 top-flight teams he has faced.

It wasn't to be, however, as VAR instantly checked to see if there had been an infringement. And - controversially - there was.

During the build-up, Lucas Moura had sprinted towards goal before being pushed to the ground. Sheffield United, in trying to clear the ball, smashed the ball against the attacker's arm, which then rebounded into the path of Kane.

Following a VAR review delay, the goal was chalked off, with Tottenham players left in dismay, questioning both how the decision was given as a handball and why they weren't given a free-kick for the foul on Lucas.

It's safe to say, the Tottenham fans were not happy.
