Sheffield United striker Oli McBurnie’s future takes twist as boyhood club Rangers target ex-Swansea City favourite

Former Swansea City striker Oli McBurnie is reportedly a target for Scottish champions Rangers.

According to the Daily Mail, the Scotland international is set to leave current club Sheffield United this summer following the Blades' relegation from the Premier League.

A boyhood Rangers fan, McBurnie has subsequently emerged as a possible target for the Scottish giants, who last season ended Celtic's nine-year dominance of the Scottish game to secure a 55th league title.

Boss Steve Gerrard is subsequently hoping to further assert Rangers' place at the top, and has reportedly identified McBurnie as a possible option ahead of the upcoming summer window.

The 24-year-old striker is expected to command a price tag of around £15m, which means the Blades could well be about to take a hit of nearly £5m on the player, who joined from Swansea two years ago.

McBurnie is currently sidelined with a fractured metatarsal, which has subsequently ruled him out of Scotland's upcoming Euro 2020 campaign.

He scored just one goal in 27 appearances for United last season and, given his ties to the blue half of Glasgow, may well be keen on making the move north of the border.
