Sheffield United striker Oli McBurnie in hot water with the FA after making lewd gestures to Cardiff City fans - reports

Sheffield United striker Oli McBurnie could be in trouble with the FA after he was caught making a lewd gesture to Cardiff City fans during the South Wales derby.

The former Swansea striker was in the away end at Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday — he was also in the home end at the return fixture at SA1 back in October — alongside centre back Joe Rodon, who is currently sidelined through injury.

And while he appeared to be enjoying the occasion, he was caught taunting Cardiff fans with an obscene gesture with his hands and, according to The Sun , a sanction for the player is 'almost certain'.

It is said that English football's governing body is usually reluctant to take action simply on photographic evidence, but the obvious nature of McBurnie's obscene hand signals means it is likely the player will be reprimanded.

A possible sanction could see the 23-year-old Scot hit with a formal FA charge and a fine for bringing the game into disrepute - however The Sun claim that is likely.

What is more likely is that the striker will face a warning from the FA, while Blades boss Chris Wilder is likely to be unhappy with his player's actions and could take matters into his own hands with an in-house punishment.

McBurnie, who watched on as his former club played out a goalless draw with Cardiff City on Sunday, is clearly a crowd favourite at Swansea, having spent four years there before sealing a £20m move to Bramall Lane last summer.

The Scotland international netted the winner for Sheffield United against West Ham on Friday night, his fourth goal of the season.

Update: Oli McBurnie has been reminded of his responsibilities by the FA.
