Sheffield United star plans Steve Cooper 'chat' ahead of huge Nottingham Forest play-off clash

Sheffield United midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White has said that he will have a "chat" to former manager Steve Cooper ahead of the Championship play-off semi-final second leg this evening (Tuesday).

Nottingham Forest go into the game holding a slim advantage from the first leg after a 2-1 win at Bramall Lane. Goals from Jack Colback and Brennan Johnson in either half had put Forest in command of the tie, but a 91st-minute strike from Sander Berge halved the deficit for the Blades.

Forest go into the game at the City Ground knowing that a draw would see them make their way to Wembley Stadium later this month. Should they make it through, they will take on Huddersfield Town who overcame Luton in their semi-final on Monday night.

Gibbs-White provided the assist for Sheffield United’s goal on Saturday, and the former England youth international is expected to again start at the City Ground. It’s a game that will see him come up against Cooper, who he won the Under 17 World Cup with back in 2017, before joining the Forest boss at Swansea last season.

“Steve and I have always had a good relationship,” Gibbs-White told The Star. “He did unbelievable things for me in the World Cup with England and when he was at Swansea, he gave me my chance when I went on loan there.

“I’ll have a chat with him before the game, like we always do, and I’ll try and get inside his head. Joking aside, I don’t think I’d be able to do that to him or him to me because we know each other too well. He knows me just as well as I know him.”

The 22-year-old played a total of six times for Swansea under Cooper last season, with his campaign disrupted by a fractured foot. The Wolves loanee was on the scoresheet for Sheffield United in the last meeting between Forest and the Blades sides at the City Ground back in November as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
