Sheffield United star Dean Henderson opens up on Man Utd aim

Sheffield United star Dean Henderson has opened up about his future aim for Manchester United.

The goalkeeper has impressed while on loan at Chris Wilder’s side this season, keeping the joint-highest number of clean sheets in the top-flight alongside Liverpool’s Alisson and Burnley’s Nick Pope.

But he’s still determined to prove he’s good enough to be the long-term solution at Old Trafford.

He told Football Focus: "Plenty of people walk around and say 'I play for Man United' and have never kicked a ball in the first team before. I am not one of those people.

"I always feel like I've got a point to prove and one day that is my aim, to play for Man United.

"Until that happens I have got to earn the right, I have got to keep working hard day in and day out.

"When the day comes it will be even sweeter because it has been such a tough journey for myself.

“Only people around me know it has been hard at times. Hopefully, fingers crossed, in the near future it will happen."

Thanks to Henderson’s incredible form, the Blades have made an impressive return to the Premier League after securing promotion from the Championship last term.

They’re currently sixth, just five points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.

The Red Devils, meanwhile, have endured a difficult campaign.

They’re seventh with just 35 points from 25 games.

They’ve lost more league games than they’ve won since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer became the permanent manager, leading to speculation about his future.

Henderson, who is due to return to Old Trafford at the end of the season, will compete with David de Gea for the number one spot.

The 22-year-old Englishman is looking to maintain his high standards as he bids to force his way into Gareth Southgate’s plans for the Euros this summer.
