Sheffield United's injury boost ahead of pivotal Ipswich Town clash

Sheffield United will welcome back captain Billy Sharp to their squad ahead of their season-defining clash with Ipswich Town on Saturday.

The Blades skipper missed both games over the Easter weekend after limping out of United’s 1-1 draw with Millwall on April 13.

Gary Madine and Scott Hogan have partnered David McGoldrick upfront in the last two matches but Chris Wilder has confirmed their top-scorer, Sharp, is back in contention to play at the weekend.

Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield ahead of the clash with the Tractor Boys, he said: “We’re really confident he’s going to be involved at the weekend. As you can imagine, from Billy’s point of view, he’s desperate to be involved but he has to be right and he has to be fit.”

There will be a carnival atmosphere at a sold-out Bramall Lane, with Sheffield United knowing a win against the rock-bottom visitors will almost guarantee promotion to the top flight, ahead of Leeds United's home clash against Aston Villa on Sunday.

Back-to-back wins, coupled with two defeats for Leeds United, mean the Blades hold a three-point lead and a hugely superior goal difference on their Yorkshire rivals, with two games to play.

Sharp is the only potential absentee after Jack O’Connell came back into the side last Friday against Nottingham Forest.

For Ipswich Town, they head to South Yorkshire sweating on the fitness of winger Gwion Edwards who suffered a late injury against Swansea City on Monday.

Speaking to the East Anglian Daily Times, assistant manager Stuart Taylor said: “It wasn't so much an injury, more fatigue because he's been keeping himself for games as opposed to training throughout the week.

“He's one we're looking at to see if he's ready for Saturday or not, but he's been digging in deep and we'll see how he is.”

Striker Ellis Harrison, who hasn’t featured for the Tractor Boys since February, could feature again before the campaign is out but Saturday’s encounter will probably come too soon for him.

Paul Lambert will welcome back Josh Emmanuel and Myles Kenlock to Town’s squad, however, with the pair both back in contention after injury.

The Blues have lost three of their last five games in all competitions but will be hoping to crash the party this weekend.
