Sheffield United reveal transfer stance on Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson

Sheffield United are hopeful they can keep on-loan Manchester United goalkeeper at the club for another season and have opened negotiations with the Reds.

The 22-year-old is enjoying his second loan spell with the Blades having helped them get promoted to the Premier League last season.

The England youth international impressed again against Manchester City on Tuesday night, pulling off a number of impressive saves and denying Gabriel Jesus from the penalty spot.

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder was full of praise for Henderson and said his club is already in talks with United about extending his stay at Bramall Lane.

"He wants to play first-team football," Wilder said of Henderson. "Maybe I shouldn't be saying this but I'm not so sure he'll play back-up to anybody because it's just the character of the boy. Maybe he'll come out and say it. If there's a decision for Manchester United for him to come out to us for another year.

"We'd gladly take that. We've already started talking with them but he's their player and that decision will be made on behalf of Manchester United and their player but he's been outstanding for us."

Henderson's brilliant performances have led to suggestions he should be in contention to be England's first-choice goalkeeper for the European Championship in the summer and Wilder thinks the 22-year-old should be in with a shout.

"I think he's been outstanding," Wilder said. "I know there's a pecking order in that England group but they must be really good goalkeepers to get in ahead of him at the moment because I thought his kicking and his positional sense was great tonight, he was unfortunate to concede what was a world-class pass and a fabulous finish."
