Sheffield United make Ben Davies transfer claim as Liverpool decision made

Six months after his switch from Preston North End to Liverpool, Ben Davies’ time at Anfield may already be coming to an end as Sheffield United are among the clubs interested in the player.

Blades boss Slavisa Jokanovic confirmed the club were eager to bring Davies to Bramall Lane as he was asked about the Liverpool man, as well as Ronaldo Vieira.

He said: “I am interested in both players. Yes, I am interested in both.

“Like all the coaches around the world, we need some support and improvement.”

The defender signed for Liverpool as part of a late transfer window scramble amid last season's injury crisis.

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez had already been ruled out for the entirety of the campaign and an injury to Joel Matip only strengthened Liverpool’s need to bring in defensive reinforcement.

The additions of Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies were not viewed as long term solutions as Jurgen Klopp opted to sign Red Bull Leipzig’s Ibrahima Konate this summer.

Davies is yet to play a minute of competitive first team football for the Reds and interest is growing in the 25-year-old.

Jokanovic will be hoping Davies can add quality to the squad as he looks to bring United back to the Premier after their relegation last season.

The Echo understands Liverpool are willing to listen to offers to take Davies away from Anfield on a permanent deal this summer.

United will face competition for the defender, though, as Celtic remain keen on the player as the Scottish side were close to landing his signature before Liverpool swooped in the dying stages of the January window.

Burnley were also interested earlier this year prior to his Liverpool move and are thought to be keeping tabs on the situation.

Despite interest from other clubs and an initial bid getting rejected earlier this week, the Championship side remain in pole position.
