Sheffield United join Nottingham Forest in loan race for Man United youngster

Sheffield United have "joined the race" for Nottingham Forest target James Garner.

Forest have been keen for their former loanee to return to the City Ground but the Manchester United youngster is now the subject of interest from elsewhere.

Championship rivals Sheffield United have made Garner a target, according to The Sun.

Both clubs are interested in taking the 20-year-old on loan for the coming season after he impressed for Forest last term.

The youngster made 20 appearances for Forest, scoring four times from midfield - his first goal coming in the East Midlands derby at Pride Park.

Sheffield United's interest seems serious, though, with it reported that Garner 'would play a big part' in their plans as they look to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Garner has featured in a number of pre-season friendlies for Manchester United over the summer, who are yet to make clear their position on the midfielder's immediate future.

Man United have previously loaned goalkeeper Dean Henderson to Sheffield United so the two clubs have a good relationship.

The same argument could be made for the existing relationship between Man United and Forest after Garner's previous loan move - something which puts the club in a strong position.
