Sheffield United injury and suspension latest with key man ruled out of Leeds United clash

The Premier League will host its first Yorkshire derby for 19 years this weekend, when Leeds United head down the M1 to face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

Marcelo Bielsa's men have enjoyed a thrilling return to the Premier League, with a 4-3 defeat to Liverpool being followed by 4-3 win at home to Fulham in two action-packed matches.

The Blades are still looking for their first Premier League point of the new season, having gone down to Wolves and Aston Villa so far. Their current run of three successive league defeats which stretches back to last season is the longest losing streak of Wilder's time in South Yorkshire.

Wilder and his players will not be short of motivation this weekend as they face a Yorkshire rival. Ahead of the clash, here is a look at the Blades' current injury and suspension list.

Lys Mousset - foot injury

The former Bournemouth man suffered a foot injury during pre-season, with Wilder giving a brief update ahead of his side's Monday night defeat at Villa Park.

“There’s no update on Lys. We don’t know yet. But he’s the only one out though”, Wilder said.

Wilder is looking to bring in a new striker before the transfer window shuts, but will still have the likes of Oli McBurnie, Billy Sharp, David McGoldrick, and Oliver Burke available against Leeds.

John Egan - suspension

A bigger blow for Wilder will be the absence of John Egan, who was sent off against Villa and will be suspended on Sunday.

Egan was shown a straight red card after taking down Ollie Watkins, who was running through on goal in the 12th-minute of the Blades’ 1-0 defeat to Villa.

The Irish defender has become an integral part of Chris Wilder’s team since being promoted to the Premier League ahead of the 2019-20 season, usually featuring alongside Chris Basham and Jack O’Connell in a three-man defence.

Chelsea loanee Ethan Ampadu was subbed on after Egan's dismissal at Villa Park and is a likely contender to replace the 27-year-old.

Wilder is due to undertake his pre-match press conference on Friday morning, where he will give an update on any fresh injuries.
