Sheffield United boss makes admission in promotion fight with Leeds United

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has admitted Leeds United deserve to be promoted if they finish higher in the table.

The Blades put the pressure back on Marcelo Bielsa’s side after victory over Nottingham Forest on Friday, rising back to second-spot in the table ahead of Leeds’ hosting of Wigan Athletic at Elland Road.

With just a handful of games remaining, time is running out in the battle for promotion and Wilder has admitted he will not have any arguments if the Peacocks finish higher in the table.

“I’ve just said to the players in there, if anyone comes in and tops your total, they deserve to go up,” he told Sky Sports after the victory over Forest.

“I’ve got no problems about that. We’ve got to make that total as high as we can and make it so that a team has got to do some really decent football. Don’t hand it over, don’t let it slip, we’ve certainly not done that today.”

Wilder also spoke about his side’s remaining games in the league this term, with high-flying Hull City next in line - a game that he believes will be a tough test.

“We’ve got an ex-manager on Monday who has done remarkably well, at Hull City they’ve got some really talented players, so that’s not an easy game,” he added.

“We’ve never talked about easy games in the Championship, how can we when we’ve only been in it for two years?”
