Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder reveals details of Dean Henderson discussions with Ed Woodward

The Sheffield United manager, Chris Wilder, is confident of securing Dean Henderson on loan for a second season at Bramall Lane after productive discussions with Manchester United's executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward.

Henderson has kept a Championship-leading 20 clean sheets in 44 appearances this season, with the Blades' promotion to the Premier League confirmed by Leeds' draw against Aston Villa on Sunday.

The 22-year-old, who signed a two-year deal at Old Trafford last summer on the proviso that he would be handed a second-tier loan move, is set to feature as first choice stopper for England's under-21s at the European Championships this summer after being closely monitored by the FA's head of goalkeeping Tim Dittmer this season.

And Wilder says the wheels are in motion for Henderson to retain his berth in Sheffield United's goal for their first top-flight campaign since the 2006/07 season after a meeting with Woodward and United's head of youth development, John Murtagh.

"We went over there, (assistant manager) Alan Knill and I, to watch the Manchester derby," Wilder told the Sheffield Star. "We've got a really good relationship with them, they're great to work with, and we saw John and Ed Woodward.

"We talked briefly about Dean. Manchester United are keen and we are keen. He (Henderson) has made all the right noises."

Discussing the terms of a potential deal with United, Wilder added: "He's a Manchester United player and there's not talk of a permanent. We believe it will be a loan.

"Hopefully we can get it wrapped up as quickly as possible because there's an enormous amount of work to do, not only only the pitch.

"Hopefully we can get it done. Then that's one, of many things, we'll have ticked off."
