Sheffield stabbing: Man, 21, dies after being stabbed in chest

A 21-year-old man has been stabbed to death in Sheffield.

Emergency services rushed to the scene in the Southey area of the city, at about 10.15pm last night.

They found a young man who had suffered stab wounds to his chest.

Residents claim he had been desperately knocking on doors shouting "help" before an ambulance arrived.

One woman told The Star: "All I know is that he wasn't actually stabbed on the street but that he was trying to get help.

"I'd just come back from Tramlines and just saw all the police."

The victim was taken to hospital but died shortly afterwards.

Tributes have now been paid on social media, with one describing him as a "lovely kid".

Debbie Green posted on Facebook: “RIP young man you was such a lovely kid, thinking of all the family.”

Chezsta Japablo added: “Rest in paradise cuzzy. No words will describe the pain I feel for your loss or bring you back. I just want to know who’s done this to you.”

Hannah Shepherd said: “Devastating news - condolences to his family and friends. How many people have to be taken before something is seriously done?”

South Yorkshire Police confirmed a murder inquiry is underway.

Detective Chief Inspector Jade Brice said: “Enquiries are underway to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and where it occurred.

“A cordon remains in place around the area as a team of detectives and forensic officers carry out enquiries and speak to residents.

“Local neighbourhood officers will also be in the area today, for your reassurance, and to speak to should you have any concerns.

“I am keen to hear from anyone who was in the area last night, who saw or heard anything suspicious.

"If you have any information please don’t hesitate to contact us via 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111. Please quote incident number 1085 of 21 July 2019 when passing on information.”
