Sheffield 'shooting': Man, 26, critical after reports of five-man pub brawl

A 26-year-old man is in a critical condition following a suspected shooting outside a Sheffield pub - in what has been described as a "five man fight".

South Yorkshire Police said that emergency services were called to Sandstone Road in Sheffield at around 1.05am on Sunday following reports of a five-man altercation outside the Wenue6 pub.

The man was found at the scene and was taken to hospital with an injury to the upper body, the force added.

A spokesman said that the injury is "suspected to have been caused by a firearms discharge", and that the man remains in a critical condition.

The force said: "An investigation is in the early stages and detectives are working hard to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and detain those involved."

It comes after worried residents in parts of Sheffield called for action after a shooting and three stabbings in the space of five days last week in some of the city's worst ever violence.

Anyone with information is being asked to call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111
