The final piece of roof cladding has been lifted into place at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park’s Community Stadium.
The three-storey covered sports stadium, which will have a total capacity of 3,900 - including initial seating for 758 spectators - is being developed and managed by Scarborough Group International (SGI), and will be home to Sheffield Eagles Rugby League Club.
Yorkshire-headquartered principal contractor GMI Construction Group is now progressing with the final phase involving the fitting out of the internal space below the 58m by 30m roof.
It features 23,000 sq ft of commercial space and the company is now delivering the ancillary facilities and common areas before the project is handed over to SGI during the early part of this year.
Work started on the stadium just virtually a year ago following a socially distanced ground-breaking ceremony. Around 240 tonnes of steelwork, 2,350 tonnes of concrete and 100,000 blocks have been used in the project, with more than 10,000 tonnes of material moved as part of the earthworks.

SGI acquired the community stadium site from Sheffield City Council in 2018 prior to concluding a wider agreement to deliver the next phase of Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, which includes a masterplan for approximately 850,000 sq ft of commercial space across an 80-acre zone.
It is described as a scheme to completely transform the eastern quarter of the city into a “vibrant, world-class community for the health, wellbeing, sport and activity sectors, creating up to 5,600 high-value jobs”.
Jon Anderson, project director at SGI, said: “The Community Stadium is looking fantastic in its setting and is going to be a real focal point for the park.
