Sheep dies after violent attack in Midlothian as police bid to trace man seen with two Staffies

A sheep has died after being violently attacked on a farm in Midlothian – with police looking to trace a man seen walking two Staffies in the area.

The sheep sustained serious injuries in the incident, which happened near Rosewell at around 8pm on Saturday, and later had to be put to sleep.

Officers say they want to speak to a man described as being in his late 30s, of medium build and around 5ft. He was wearing dark clothing and had a black beanie hat on. He was walking two dark-tan coloured Staffordshire Bull Terriers.

Sergeant Michele Lindsay at Penicuik police station says that they want to reassure the public that they are taking the incident seriously, adding: "This is an area frequented and enjoyed by a number of walkers and dog walkers, particularly at weekends.

"I'd urge anyone who has information that may assist in relation to this incident to contact police. I wish to reassure members of the public that we are taking this incident seriously.

"We're committed to tackling rural crime and working with farmers, landowners and businesses in the rural parts of Midlothian to raise awareness of such crimes and take measures to prevent them."

Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 4182 of 13 April, or get in touch with Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
