Shedd Aquarium is free for Illinois residents on these September days

Starting after Labor Day, the Shedd will be free to Illinois residents on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays in September. | Shedd Aquarium

If you were planning on visiting the sea otter pups and penguin chicks at the Shedd Aquarium next month, you’re in luck.

Starting after Labor Day, Shedd admission will be free for Illinois residents on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout September.

To take advantage of the deal, residents need to show a valid photo ID or other proof of residence. The aquarium advised residents to secure tickets online in advance, because space is limited.

Free tickets for residents grant access to all of Shedd’s exhibits, including “Underwater Beauty,” a special exhibit.

In addition to the free days, the aquarium will be open until 9 p.m. on certain days in September.
