Shed blaze in Glasgow's west end sees nearby residents evacuated

Firefighters in Glasgow were called to deal with a blaze next to a tenement block in the west end of the city this evening.

The incident involved a shed on fire in Belmont Lane off Lacrosse Terrace in the Kelvinbridge area.

The Scottish Fire & Rescue Service confirmed that three appliances were mobilised to the scene around 18:45pm after they received various reports from concerned locals about the blaze.

Images from the scene showed fire crews in attendance as the flames from the shed sent a large plume of smoke into the sky, with an eyewitness informing Glasgow Live that nearby residents had to be evacuated while firefighters worked to put out the flames.

Fire chiefs have confirmed that the blaze has now been extinguished and that fire crews remain on site.

There are no reports of any casualties.

The Scottish Fire & Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "We had numerous calls about a shed on fire in Belmont Lane in Glasgow. The first call came in at 18:44pm on March 6.

"We have three appliances in attendance at present. It was one timber shed. The fire has now been extinguished. There has been no reports of any casualties. Firefighters remain in attendance."
