As an editor, I know a collection’s good when it starts selling out before I’ve even had the chance to add to cart (and with advance press releases, I really have no excuse). So I wasn’t exactly shocked to see Shea McGee’s new Threshold lighting drop for Target vanish fast (it always hits). But it is flying particularly fast this time, because – in my humble opinion – this lighting lineup might be her best yet.
Much of the credit can be given to its whipstitched borders: a Western-adjacent detail I clocked at a high-end residence during a trip to Mexico City, and have occasionally spotted inside the lobbies of carefully curated boutique hotels. The embellishment is usually stitched in calfskin or crisp linen, but Shea McGee's Target collection has made the look more affordable with a cotton-poly blend. And let me just say: that $20 Empire shade has no business looking this expensive.
Why buy a new table lamp when you can breathe new life into one you already own? The brown whipstitching and neutral-toned body give this shade a softer, more versatile look than your typical black-and-white combo. In other words: it's got range. This shade works just as well in a formal sitting room as it does on either side of a bed – and would look especially good flanking both.
Elsewhere, paper-thin pleats on table lamps and lace-cut-like filigree on task lights are equally impressive. Some pieces (including a ceramic table lamp that, frankly, should’ve been gatekept) are already gone. But several covetable lighting ideas remain up for grabs – for now, that is.
No base? No problem. Shea’s sculptural round lamp base is surprisingly substantial, grounding both bedside tables or desk tops alike without appearing overly eager.
Whether you’re swapping a full fixture or just mixing and matching bases and shades, take it from someone who shops professionally: move fast. Because once TikTok finds them, they’ll be triple the price on eBay – and trust me, you’ll wish you didn’t hesitate.
A little texture never hurt – especially when it looks like this. Intricate drum-style paper pleats give this table lamp dimension for days, while the mushroom silhouette adds an avant-garde edge that feels far more elevated than the price tag suggests.
Can’t get enough whipstitching? Neither can I – especially when it’s on sale. This geometrically detailed flush mount is now 25% off. Hang it in hallways, entryways, anywhere that could use a hint of warm glow, gently diffused through breezy neutral fabric.
Thanks to an adjustable chain, this antique-inspired ceiling lantern can go almost anywhere – but for a slightly unexpected (and very chic) twist, try it over a kitchen island or dining area. It brings old-world charm with just enough edge to feel "now."
If you’re into Shea McGee’s Threshold line for Target, wait until you see what she actually lives with. Her McGee & Co. collection is her namesake counterpart brand – and these 15 pieces all have a place in her own home.
