Shea McGee's Ralph Lauren-Inspired Office Is Effortlessly Chic – But It's The Plaid Wallpaper That Steals The Show

Shea McGee in the kitchen with brick walls and island with wooden bar stools.

If I were to conjure up an image of my absolute dream office space, a heritage-inspired study decked out with antique lighting, mahogany furniture, and a moody color palette would come to mind.

A classic look that radiates timeless elegance, I'm not the only one who thinks this Ralph Lauren aesthetic works exceptionally well in a home office. Shea McGee's recent project proves that the classic Ralph Lauren aesthetic is the best choice for a work-from-home space. Every piece in her design feels sophisticated and luxurious, but the nostalgic plaid wallpaper ideas are what truly give it substance.

Shea creates my absolute dream office using not only timeless furniture, but a dark and moody color scheme and bold wallpaper. It's an inviting and inspiring workspace that is guaranteed to welcome its lucky owner.

Featured in Shea's latest project, The Gable House, the rather striking plaid wallpaper enriches the room in dark green hues. Shea says, 'The office is a pretty stark contrast against the foyer. We have dark green panelling and a plaid wallpaper – it's very Ralph Lauren-inspired.'

Shea has decorated with a moody color palette that couldn't be more in keeping with the wallpaper. The green trim and built-in furniture add to the room's seamless feel, creating an added layer of warmth and snugness. She says, 'We wrapped the entire room in this dark paint color, and then we just layered depth on top of that.' The vintage chandelier, leather desk chair and antique wooden desk add to the luxurious setting, the perfect accompaniments to contrast against the rich color palette.

Shea has been brave with her furniture choices, adding a green sofa and dark wooden furniture. While many would add paler accents to offset the dark walls, these pieces blend seamlessly into the space, adding to the room's dark and moody ambience. Shea says, 'Behind the desk area, we had room for a sofa. Instead of doing a contrast against the deep green paint color, we just leaned into that tone, and we did the Barden sofa from McGee & Co. in a dark green velvet.'
