Shea McGee Just Designed a Pet Room Fit for Any Pooch – and I’ve Sourced the Perfect Pieces So You Can Recreate the Look at Home

Designer Shea McGee photographed for her Target 2025 collection sat on a navy slipcovered armchair beside a fireplace with a wooden turned side table and a lacquered red coffee table.

When Studio McGee leads a project, every inch of it is always masterfully designed. This was proven with their latest venture, The Gable House. After gazing far too long at the home, I was amazed by every room's charm and timeless style. However, there was one space that stood out from the rest – the rather playful dog room.

I admit, a room designed for pets is undoubtedly a luxury, but that didn't stop me from admiring the space from afar. Similar to a mudroom, this dog room design features gray panelled walls and a chic pet shower (decked out in Bedrosian's Palazzo Castle tiles from Lowes) that's perfect for post-walk cleaning.

While dedicating a whole room to your pet might be a little far-fetched, I think the design is perfect inspiration if you're looking to refresh your utility room, hallway, or even kitchen – and you'll be pleased to know that you can recreate the look with these Shea-inspired pieces.

Shea has dog-proofed the home by creating a designated area for cleaning and general pet-related activities. Although the space is highly practical (it needs to be for mucky pups), it's nice to see that no compromise has been made on style.

Not only is the wall panelling chic, tying in with the home's heritage feel, but it's a clever design choice. Instead of keeping the walls white (a rookie error for a pet room), Shea has covered the panelling in a dark sage paint (Acacia Haze by Sherwin-Williams), the perfect choice for disguising any inevitable paw prints or dirt.

Featuring a marble sink, the cleaning station is not only functional, but it also ties in with the farmhouse style. Easy to wipe, marble is a hard-wearing choice that pairs beautifully with the other tones. The dog bath is charmingly quaint with its statement tile design. It's placed conveniently beside the sink for the owner to use when needed.

Shop the look

While we aren't all lucky enough to have our own dog room, creating a designated pet station is more than possible with the right pieces. From charming dog-themed decor to everyday pet essentials, these chic (and practical) picks will help you create the ultimate pet nook in your home, inspired by Shea's enviable design.

Shea McGee designed a practical yet equally stylish dog room that would excite any pet owner. Finished with wall panelling, a marble sink and a handy built-in dog bath, the room is a pooch's (and owner's) paradise.
