A major conflict has developed between pop star Taylor Swift and actress Blake Lively, starting after Lively became involved in a $400 million lawsuit filed by Justin Baldoni, her co-star in It Ends With Us, against Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds. People close to Swift told Page Six that the singer had pulled away from Lively after court documents revealed Lively’s true feelings about Swift. This situation makes it very unlikely the two former close friends will ever fully repair their relationship.
The main problem comes from a private text message sent by Lively, who is 37, where she called Swift, 36, and Reynolds, 48, her “dragons,” comparing herself to the Game of Thrones character Khaleesi. This message became public as part of the legal case surrounding It Ends With Us. Swift is reportedly furious, seeing Lively’s words as a deliberate attempt to use their friendship to gain an advantage in her legal battle with Baldoni. Swift is deeply upset that Lively would even think of their relationship this way, much less put it in writing.
The once-strong friendship between Swift and Lively, built on deep trust, has now ended, and the two are no longer speaking. This happened after Baldoni’s large countersuit against Lively was dismissed. Swift, who has been enjoying huge professional success with her record-breaking Eras Tour in 2023 and 2024, as well as a highly publicized relationship with Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce, was unexpectedly pulled into the legal dispute.
Taylor Swift and Blake Lively are no longer friends
Baldoni’s legal team argued that Lively was using her friendship with Swift as a strategic weapon and even tried to subpoena Swift at one point. The “dragons” text, revealed in court documents, has been especially damaging. Swift’s close friends say the description was wrong and misrepresented their relationship.
Swift never saw herself as Lively’s “dragon” or protector, nor as someone who would step in to defend her. They point out that Lively, as a grown adult married to one of Hollywood’s most powerful men, does not need that kind of help. The fact that Swift’s name was brought into this situation deeply hurts her. The damage from these leaked texts, especially the “dragons” message and the initial subpoena (later dropped), is seen as long-lasting and possibly impossible to fix.

Making things more complicated, Swift had allowed her song My Tears Ricochet to be used in the movie adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel It Ends With Us. However, sources say Swift never publicly supported or promoted the film, even before the legal drama started, which shows the true nature of their friendship. Their bond was reportedly based on shared hobbies and their mutual understanding of extreme wealth, not professional connections.
They bonded over baking, traveling, home decor, and their shared billionaire status, enjoying the similar lifestyles and privileges their money gave them. Swift appreciated having a friend who didn’t seem to want anything from her since Lively was already extremely wealthy. Finding out that Lively may have seen their friendship as a way to gain influence has left Swift deeply hurt, a wound that might never fully heal.
