Is it the heart or the head that rules when a decision is made to buy a property? Over the years that I have covered the property round, real estate agents have confirmed it's a bit of both.
While the numbers have to add up, there also has to be some heartfelt appeal for many when they buy.
It was an emotional decision for one woman when she decided to buy a pub in a small country town that had a lot of appeal and potential.
Katie Pye said she made the purchase of the Robbie Burns Hotel, built in the mid 1880s and held by the one family for more than a century.
"I had no need to buy a hotel as it was not something I wanted to do," Ms Pye told Bega District News reporter Jimmy Parker.
However, she said she "realised it was like a big old ship that had the bones of what it had been with the hardwood timber, and I thought I'd save it before it fell into the ground."
Now after more than a decade at the helm, she's looking for a new custodian as she sells.
